QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
When should I book?
As soon as you know that you require my services you should make your booking. Availability is limited, to ensure maximum dedication to every family.
How do I know which date to book for?
Use your due date when booking. I will be available 24 hours two weeks before and after your due date, any time day or night, so it doesn’t matter if baby doesn’t arrive on time!
Who arranges permission at the hospital?
I have permission from the hospital. It is your responsibility to mention to your doctor so he/she can put my name on the theater list in case of a cesarean, and the maternity ward for a normal birth. You should add this information on your hospital booking.
When does the photography sessions start?
It starts when you arrive at the hospital on the day of the delivery and will continue until after the birth of your baby. It is ideal to contact me to keep me informed of your progress; generally from 5cm I will be by your side to capture the progression of the labor.
For planned cesarean births I will need to be at the hospital a few hours before the scheduled cesarean and will stay until you and baby have had those first magical cuddles. You need to inform me of the dates and times of your preplanned cesareans. Incase of an emergency I am usually only 20 minutes away, ready to capture your special moment 24/7.
What do I do when I go into labor at night?
Call me! I am available to you from 38 weeks until baby comes 24/7, I am just a phone call away; my bags will also be packed and standing at the door and I will meet you at the hospital or your home.
What if there is more than one birth at the same time?
It has never happened that way, “touch wood” but in that case the preference will be to the client that started the labor first. I will, with the permission of the client, send my back up photographer to cover the second birth until I am available to join them. If the client isn’t comfortable using my backup photographer and wants to cancel the session I will do a full refund or do a fresh 48 session.
What about nudity or feeling exposed? I am concerned for my privacy?
I understand that to give birth is a private event. We can discuss your expectations. I will be behind the staff or mom but will be focusing only on mom and dad’s faces, and baby. I honor your privacy. We can discuss all of this during our meeting sessions before the birth.
Can we meet before my labor?
Yes please! I love to meet all my clients before the time, so that you can get to know me and be comfortable with me. It gives me an opportunity to answer all your questions and talk about things you like and dislike before and during your labor. If your labour is not planned at the hospital I would like to see the venue to evaluate the light and space, so that I can ensure that I am equipped and prepared for your special day and ready to capture your special moments.
Where do I work?
I mainly work with Blaauwberg Hospital and within the Melkbos and surrounding areas for maternity shoots.
What style photos do you take?
I see myself as a natural photojournalist, meaning I take all shots natural with no extra light no flash and no posing or acting. I like to be the fly on the wall capturing the event as it unfolds. I will not photoshop your photos, thus some photos might be more grainy than normal because of the low light, but it adds to the effect of the event as it unfolds.
Do you do videos and photos?
No, I only do photos, (hospitals don’t allow videos) the photos is in color and black/white; you will receive your high-resolution photos on a USB memory card or CD to print and share as you wish.
What if we know that my baby will be very sick after it is born or won’t live?
I understand NILMLDTS (Now I Lay My Life Down To Sleep) I am a qualified Registered Nurse and understand suffering the loss of a baby. It is one of the most traumatic experiences parents can face in one’s life. It is just as important to capture the memories and birth as any other child. I would be there for you and your family to say goodbye, capturing moments and memories with you. This will help you and your family with healing and grieving for your child. Believe me, you will want to remember every detail of your child.
If baby is in hospital for a prolonged period of time we can make arrangements to capture detail of baby until he /she goes home.
Do you provide a Photo book or Prints?
I do not do any photo books and I do not do any photo prints. I will provide a USB memory stick or CD with all your photo’s on and you can have it printed as you wish. Ask me about alternative Photo book options.
Do you do newborn shoots ?
I do not do the new born shoots (because I am on call all the time) but I use and recommend a well known newborn photographer that will be able to help you, she does the newborn shoot under the GENESIS brand. Please ask me for more information.
