3 Steps to Choosing the Perfect Maternity Shoot Location
Location scouting for your maternity shoot can be incredibly overwhelming since already have so much going on with being pregnant and all! In fact, the thought of it may even put you off the whole maternity shoot idea to begin with. But, with some direction from your maternity photography photographer, choosing the perfect preggy belly photo setting will be a lot easier than you think.
- Studio vs setting
The very first decision you’ll have to make is whether you’d like your maternity shoot performed at a studio, or at another location of your choice. Maternity shoots performed at a professional studio have the ease of turning out incredibly minimal and modern. These photos often focus on details such as close-ups of the belly, or of the parents’ faces during intimate moments touching the belly. Studio shoots are beautiful, but also limiting. A setting of your choice depicts your personality, and will most probably allow you to feel more comfortable. But then again, you could opt for both!
- Indoor vs outdoor
If you’ve decided on choosing a personal setting, you’ll have to decide whether it will be indoors or outdoors. It’s quite traditional to opt for an outdoor location, with beaches being a popular choice. But keep an open mind and consider all you other options too. A maternity shoot location should communicate something unique about you and your partner. You could even choose to do the shoot in the comfort and intimacy of your own home, whether it be in your bedroom, lounge, or developing nursery to showcase your life pre-baby.
- A location with meaning – think outside the box!
As touched on briefly, your chosen location could truly communicate something special. If you love the outdoors or are an active individual, the ocean, forest, or mountains may be perfect for you. If you love drawing, painting, or art, a gallery or your personal creative space at home would be great. If you are passionate about reading and writing, why not opt for a reading nook in your home, garden, or at your favourite park? Love to cook and eat? What about your kitchen, a farmer’s market or your local cafe??
Most importantly, speak to your maternity photographer about your ideas. A professional will be able to advise you on what would be more feasible and how comfortable you’re likely to feel in given settings. You and your partner don’t have to do it alone! Together, with your photographer, you’ll be able to come to a decision on the perfect maternity shoot location for you.
